Region 16 Report – Erin Schwarz attended the Regional PTO Meeting where Mr. Agostine updated the group on the following topics: The budget referendum passed with thanks to the efforts of the PTOs.  As a result of PLTI, there was a program on drug use for parents which was presented last night and it was very well attended with 120-130 parents.  The program was very well received.  The new administrative position which is part-time Special Education Coordinator and part-time Curriculum will be posted shortly.  Laurel Ledge will be losing a teaching position this year, which will affect the current 1st grade moving to 2nd grade.  Algonquin is losing a 1st grade class.  Karen Allicini from Long River is the Region 16 Teacher of the Year.  She is a 6th grade Language Arts teacher.  Mr. Agostine has hired a new Assistant Principal for Woodland and the announcement will be made at the Board of Education meeting tomorrow.  The group also discussed getting more information out there from the Prevention Task Force, to make parents more aware of this group and what they do.

Principal’s Report – Lisa Testone reported on behalf of Mrs. Murzak that the next Principal’s Breakfast will take place on May 12th at 10 AM and the math program will be discussed.  The Spring Art Show and concert will take place June 3rd.  May 25th is the Variety Show with over 25 acts participating.  Thank you to the PTO for the Teachers’ Luncheon which went very well.

Field Day will be June 9th and plans are underway.  Lisa will be looking for lots of parent volunteers and the indoor and outdoor parts of the day are coming together.  It should be memorable for the students.

Recording Secretary’s Report - Given by Erin Schwarz.  The minutes of the April, 2010 meeting were reviewed; Tina Mulinski made a motion to accept.  Beth Bucciferro seconded and the motion carried.

Corresponding Secretary’s Report - The PTO received thank you notes from several teachers for the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, including Mrs. Ambrosini, Mrs. Ranaudo and Mrs. Ellingson.

Treasurer’s ReportSee attached report from Lauren Smith.   Income included monies from Box Tops ($856), membership, Green School for toner collection, donation for a dunk tank for Field Day, plant sale and book fair.  The book fair invoice still needs to be paid.  The plant sale invoice has been paid and the event broke even.  Expenses for April included:  several class trips, plant sale, and the renewal of the insurance policy ($750).  The current balance of the PTO account is $18,875.77 (which includes the Playground funds).   Beth Bucciferro called for a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Diane Kalentek seconded the motion.  All ayes.

Committee Reports:

Hospitality – Lisa Sizer reported that the Teachers’ Appreciation Luncheon went very well with plenty of donations of food and volunteers for the afternoon.  The teachers were pleased and the event was on budget.

Kids Care - At the final May meeting, Kids Care will finish up the collection projects, hang baseball mitts from Catch Reading Fever and cut out Campbell’s soup labels.

5K Road Race – The 5K took place on May 8th with a total of 144 runners.  Weather affected the turnout.  The total dollar figures will be in shortly once sponsors are finalized.  It may have hurt the race to be teamed with the River race.  Expenses were higher this year and profit will be lower.

Book Fair – Tina Mulinski reported the Book Fair was a great success with over $5,400 in books sold.  The $5.00 per student came out of the Scholastic dollars and totaled $2,262, so the Spring Book Fair budget is untouched.  The PTO also collected $40 in One for Books, so that $80 worth of books will be donated to Yale.  Monies will be needed for the Fall book fair, especially to help Mrs. Murzak with her incentive for the Governor’s Reading Challenge this summer.

Ice Cream Social – Will take place on June 3rd with the art show and spring concert.  Tina Mulinski will be looking for volunteers and purchasing items needed for the ice cream sundaes.

Mother’s Day Plant Sale – The plant sale was a success with plenty of volunteers helping out for the morning.  The event broke even, as it usually does.

Old Business:

Erin Schwarz reported that “Catch Reading Fever” is finishing and the Rock Cats game is on Saturday, June 5th.   Ticket orders are due May 14th.

5th Grade recognition will take place on June 17th.  Kindergarten recognition will be June 18th at 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM.

Diane Kalentek mentioned the Fall fundraiser should be decided at the June meeting.  Yankee Candle is the option that the PTO chose last fall and that sale went well.

Other Business:

The PTO will need a new Membership Chairperson this fall.

Amy Enquist called for a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:10 PM.  Beth Bucciferro seconded the motion.

The next PTO meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 8th at 7:00 PM in the Main Office Conference Room.
